A hat-trick by Job Ayo Akinde helped Alfreton Town to a second successive home game as a 3-2 win over Salisbury City lifted the Reds up into fifth place in an albeit early league table.

The Reds had to come from a goal down when Theo Lewis steered home from close range on 33 minutes.

Two minutes later Akinde failed to connect six yards out with a great cross from Bradley Wood but the Reds striker made amends on 39 minutes when he rifled home his first goal for the club from eight yards out after a Josh Law free kick had squeezed through the City defensive wall.

Akinde made it 2-1 on 63 minutes when he reacted  quickest in the penalty area to head home from eight yards into the bottom corner after City defender Glenn Wilson could only head a long Bradley Wood throw in up in the air.

And Akinde's pace and power were responsible for the third on 78 minutes as he homed in on hesitancy between Salisbury keeper Will Puddy and left-back, Callum Hart, the Reds striker nicking the ball from between them to steer home into an empty net from just inside the penalty area.

Salisbury played some good football and produced a strong finish. Substitute Ben Wright reduced the arrears on 89 minutes with a 25 yard free kick which found the bottom far corner and it took a great save by Reds keeper Ross Atkins in injury time to keep out a curling shot from Wright being parried away from under the angle of post and bar.
The loss was Salisbury's third in a row since being promoted from Conference South last season.

Alfreton now have a week off before they travel to take on Grimsby Town at Blundell Park next Saturday (3pm).
ATFC Supporters' Association transport for the Grimsby game will depart at 10.15am and seats can be booked by contacting Mark Thorpe on 07857 558401.
