ALFRETON TOWN 3, ROTHERHAM UNITED 2
Tuesday Jul 14, 2015
Alfreton Town twice came from behind to earn a terrific 3-2 home win over Sky Bet Championship side Rotherham United at the Impact Arena on Tuesday night and maintain their unbeaten status in pre-season.
The Reds competed well throughout and snatched an 88th minute winner against a Millers side in which manager Steve Evans gave a run out to the majority of his first team squad.
Grant Ward, on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, put the visitors ahead on 26 minutes when he bundled home at the far post but Alfreton hit back and equalised on 40 minutes when Sam Jones despatched an unstoppable 25 yard left-footed strike into the top corner.
Ward fired home his second goal of the game on 62 minutes to put the Millers in front again but Alfreton wouldn't lie down and with ten minutes to go John Johnston swept home a loose ball in the penalty area for 2-2.
The Reds kept going right to the end and grabbed the winner on 88 minutes when Joe Ironside headed home from close range after United keeper Adam Collin had saved from the Alfreton striker's initial header.
