BUMPER CROWD AND UP TO SIXTH
Dave Pursglove's match picture album here
Alfreton Town overcame a useful Braintree Town side to make it 25 points out of 30 at home and move up to sixth place in the table.
And the Reds had to overcome the loss of striker Jake Speight who had been recalled by parent club Mansfield Town on Friday and central defender Nick Fenton pulling out of the game after picking up a calf strain in the warm-up.
Michael Wylde put in a commanding display in Fenton's place and Daniel Meadows put in a sound display up front as stand-in striker.
With the discounted admission venture producing an attendance of 904, way up on the 496 who saw the corresponding fixture last season, the regular and new home fans were treated to three very good goals.
Job Ayo Akinde fired the Reds in front on 15 minutes as he finished an excellent ball in from Bradley Wood then Tom Shaw rifled in the second on 42 minutes from eight yards.
The visitors pulled one back on 47 minutes in fortuitous style with Luke Daley's cross the right finding the net via the inside of the far post.
Alfreton rode a flurry of activity from the visitors before getting back on top and sealing three very good points with a third goal on 65minutes, man-of-the-match Bradley Wood again the provider as his cross was headed in by Josh Law from six yards.
There is no midweek fixture and the Reds return to action on Saturday, November 23 when they travel to take on bottom-placed Hyde FC (3pm).
