Alfreton won their second home game in a row on Saturday with an excellent win over FC United of Manchester to move seven points clear of the relegation zone and move up to 16th place in the Vanarama National League North table.

Sam Smith gave the Reds an early lead prodding home at the second attempt after 6 minutes. The visitors drew level on 49 minutes with a volley from George Thomson.

The Reds had keeper Fabian Spiess to thank for a number of good saves before they bagged the winning goal in the 77th minute.

Craig Westcarr sent a low driven ball across the area to Wes Atkinson who finished with a fine low drive.

The Reds are at home again this coming Tuesday when Boston United visit the Impact Arena kick off 7-45 pm.

The Pilgrims had a 2-0 win at Worcester City on Saturday with goals from an Adam Chapman penalty  and Louis Briscoe . They currently lie one place above the Reds, two points better off but Alfreton have a game in hand.
