REDS TOO SHARP FOR BLADES

ALFRETON Town put in a promising performance as they recorded a confidence-boosting 2-1 home win over Sheffield United Reserves on Wednesday evening.

In front of 501, the Reds took the lead when trialist Drew Broughton set up Paul Clayton to put Alfreton in front as his stabbed shot beat Blades keeper George Long on 33 minutes.

United levelled on 49 minutes with a neat shot from Erikke Tonne from the right-hand angle of the penalty area.

The winner came on 55 minutes when Paul Clayton got his second goal of the night, heading in from almost on the line after Jamie Mullan's right flank corner had been headed back across goal by Theo Streete.

Alfreton are at home again on Sunday when they host a Sheffield Wednesday XI.

Kick-off is 2pm with admission priced at £8 for adults and £5 for concessions.
