Alfreton Town can count themselves desperately unlucky to have tasted a 4-2 home defeat against npower League One side Leyton Orient on Sunday.
In front of the live ESPN tv cameras, the Reds gave an excellent account of themselves and were denied by the woodwork a staggering four times throughout a gripping cup tie. But it is Orient who go forward to a third round tie at Hull City.
Alfreton had a great start with Paul Clayton firing the home side ahead after just four minutes.
After that Ben Tomlinson smashed a shot against a post and a Josh Law free kick clipped off the wall and came off the faced of the bar.
However, after a shaky start, the visitors hit back and netted three goals in 11 minutes.
Dean Cox curled in a delightful left-footed shot inside the far post on 25 minutes for 1-1.
David Mooney put the O's in front on 30 minutes when he steered in unmarked at the back post after a corner had been flicked on and Mooney made it 3-1 on 36 minutes when he headed home to finish a quality cross by Lee Cook.
Alfreton reduced the arrears when Tomlinson turned the ball home from close quarters on 52 minutes and two minutes later his close range shot smacked against the bar as the Reds gave their higher echelon visitors a real going over in the second half.
The Reds had big shouts for a penalty for hand ball rejected before Josh Law hit the bar from another free kick.
Darran Kempson had a header cleared off the line before Leyton Orient finally broke to seal a somewhat flattering final scoreline when Dean Cox fired in his second of the tie on 86 minutes.
The Reds face another huge game on Tuesday night when Wrexham are the visitors in Blue Square Bet Premier Division action. Kick-off is 7.45pm.
