REDS REACH FA CUP FIRST ROUND PROPER

Alfreton Town deservedly claimed a place in the FA Cup first round proper with a 2-0 home win over Blue Square Bet Premier Division rivals Gateshead at the Impact Arena.

The Reds had nearly all of the best chances and won through with two goals in nine minutes early in the second half.

Nathan Arnold's 55th minute eight yard angled shot found the net with the aid of a big deflection off Gateshead central defender James Curtis which left his keeper Adam Bartlett stranded.

The second came on 64 minutes when Ben Tomlinson advanced down the left and cut in before despatching a 12 yard shot across Bartlett into the far corner for a quality finish.

The attendance was 338 and Daniel Meadows was named as the Reds man of the match.

The draw for the first round is being made live on ITV on Sunday at 1.30pm.
