ALFRETON Town recovered from going a goal down just before half-time to record a historic first ever Blue Square Bet Premier Division home win as they outfought a gallant Barrow side who were reduced to ten men on 36 minutes.
It may have taken five games to arrive, but when it did it was borne out of a gutsy, fully determined display which finally brought two goals in a game for the first time this season, both of them in the last 18 minutes.
The visitors had captain Gavin Skelton sent off for an elbow offence on Alfreton's Jake Moult, but five minutes later the Bluebirds were in front when on loan debutant Haydn Hollis confidently steered in a deep free kick from substitute Paul Smith to the far post.
Alfreton equalised on 73 minutes when Anton Brown's neat header wrong-footed Danny Hurst in the Barrow goal to finish a lovely inswinging cross from Jamie Mullan for his first goal of the season.
The winner came in the first minute of four of added time from substitute James Ellison (pictured) who netted his first goal since joining the club on loan from Burton Albion when he rose highest in a melee of players at the far post to plant a header into the top of the net from Levi Mackin's right side flag-kick.
The attendance was 678 with around 60 visiting fans in attendance. The Reds man of the match was Theo Streete. Full match report here
Alfreton are at home again on Saturday when Ebbsfleet United are the visitors to the Impact Arena for a 3pm kick-off.
