Alfreton Town slipped to a 2-1 home defeat against a Wrexham side who played almost the entire second half with ten men after striker Danny Wright had been sent off for a second bookable offence on 49 minutes.
Alfreton fell behind on 16 minutes when a left flank corner was headed back across goal and Neil Ashton's header struck a defender, looped over keeper Phil Barnes and found the net despite the acrobatic efforts of Anton Brown to keep it out.
The Reds equalised on 32 minutes when Josh Law's free kick from the left was dummied and Ben Tomlinson swooped to steer a firm shot into the roof of the net from ten yards.
Wrexham's Danny Wright was booked for kicking the ball away before Reds boss Nicky Law was sent to the stands by referee Mr Bull seconds before half-time.
Wright gained a red card for a late lunge on Leigh Franks four minutes into the second half and the visitors were down to ten men.
Alfreton had a great chance to take the lead on 51 minutes but Nathan Arnold opted to shoot and had his shot saved when he could have squared to the unmarked Paul Clayton.
Wrexham had Billy Barr also sent to the stands from the dugout by Mr Bull but the visitors settled themselves and after emerging from a spell of pressure, they grabbed the winner on 75 minutes with a great goal by Joe Clarke who picked his way through the centre of the home defence and beat the diving Phil Barnes with a low 12 yarder into the bottom right corner.
The win sent the Welsh side to the top of the table. The attendance was 628 including 153 visiting fans.
Alfreton are back in action on Saturday when they travel to face Hereford United. ATFC Supporters' Association transport departs at 9am and seats can be booked by contacting Mark Thorpe on 07857 558401.
