Alfreton Town's Derbyshire Senior Cup campaign ended at the second hurdle after a 3-1 home defeat by Matlock Town on Tuesday evening.

The Gladiators opened up a 3-0 half-time lead thanks to goals from Liam Needham on six minutes, former Red Michael Harcourt on 39 minutes and Joe Leesley in added time at the end of the first half.

Alfreton reduced the arrears through Jordan Keane's first goal for the club in the second half but it was nowhere near enough as the Reds' poor form in the competition continues.
Nicky Law's side have only gone past the fourth round once in the last seven seasons.

Six-pointer
Alfreton Town return to Vanarama Conference league action on Saturday when they travel to face Welling United in a relegation six-pointer.
