Alfreton Town slipped to a 2-1 home defeat at the Impact Arena at the hands of a strong Macclesfield Town side on Saturday.
After a strong start by the Reds, Macclesfield took the lead on 31 minutes when Thierry Audel headed his first goal for the Silkmen from their first corner of the game.
Alfreton equalised on 36 minutes when a superb low free kick from the left by Josh Law was stabbed in at the far post by Paul Clayton for his 13th league goal of the campaign.
Macclesfield's winner came on 58 minutes when a Keiran Murtagh free kick from 25 yards out smacked against the far post and Waide Fairhurst was the quickest to react to the loose ball as he dived low to head home from six yards out.
The attendance was 740 which included 160 from Macclesfield and Phil Barnes was the Reds man of the match.
Alfreton are back in Blue Square Bet Premier Division action on Tuesday night when they travel to face relegation-fighting Nuneaton Town who had a 2-1 victory at Barrow on Saturday to increase their chances of survival.
Kick-off is 7.45m and ATFC Supporters' Association transport to Nuneaton departs at 5.30pm. Seats can be booked via Mark Thorpe on 07857 558401
