ALFRETON TOWN 1, LINCOLN CITY 3
Tuesday Oct 11, 2011 to Tuesday Oct 11, 2011
ALFRETON Town slipped to a 3-1 home defeat against managerless Lincoln City on Tuesday evening, all the goals coming in the opening 24 minutes.
Manager Law gave a debut to latest loan signing Lee Stevenson but after a strong start by the Reds, Lincoln stunned Nicky Law's side with two goals in two minutes early on.
From their one and only corner of the game on 11 minutes, Karl Cunningham's flag kick was headed in by the unmarked Sam Smith for 1-0. Smith doubled the lead on 13 minutes, tapping home from literally two yards out after a terrific run along the left byline and set-up cross by Gavin McCallum.
Alfreton reduced the arrears on 18 minutes when Connor Franklin's left flank cross picked out Paul Clayton who beat Lincoln keeper Joe Anyon with a six-yard downward header just inside the post.
The visitors grabbed their third goal when the home defence gifted McCallum far too much time and space in the penalty area to smash home a left footed shot from ten yards.
The attendance was 1,232 with 410 making the trip from Lincolnshire. Anton Brown was the Reds' man of the match.
Alfreton are on the road this Saturday when they go to Cambridge United. ATFC Supporters' Association transport departs at 9.15am and seats can be booked by contacting Mark Thorpe on 01773 836251.
