Alfreton Town extended their unbeaten Skrill Premier run to four games after a 1-1 home draw against play-off rivals Gateshead at the Impact Arena on Saturday.
The visitors played the last 52 minutes with ten men after Phil Turnbull was sent off for two cautionable offences in 12 first-half minutes, he seeing red on 38 minutes.
Reds boss Nicky Law handed a debut to Andrai Jones at right back. He has joined the club on loan for a month from Barnsley, and he was impressive throughout to earn the Reds man-of-the-match award.
The visitors took the lead on 51 minutes when a James Curtis cross was headed home by Marcus Maddison.
Alfreton equalised on 71 minutes thanks to substitute Tom Shaw's seventh league goal of the campaign. Job Ayo Akinde sent him through the middle and he held off a challenge to despatch a 12-yard shot that found the net despite the best efforts of Gateshead keeper Adam Bartlett.
The attendance was 817, well up on the 566 who witnessed the corresponding fixture last season.
The Reds are next in action on Saturday, March 1st when they travel to take on runaway league leaders Luton Town.
