Alfreton Town had to settle for a point from a 1-1 draw with Cambridge United at the Impact Arena on Tuesday night as the U's levelled with an injury time penalty award which saw Theo Streete receive a straight red card for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity.
The Reds led from the 27th minute when Reds man-of-the-match Josh Law netted his first goal of the season (right) with a superb curling 25 yard free kick which beat the diving United keeper Ross Craig inside his right-hand post.
Chances came and went at both ends with the visitors - who enjoyed the better of the second half - creditably keeping going right until the end when Streete brought down Harrison Dunk as he shaped to shoot inside the penalty area on 90+2 minutes.
Michael Gash smacked the resultant penalty in straight down the middle to claim a share of the spoils for his side.
The attendance was 534 with 88 making the trip from Cambridge.
Alfreton play their final game before Christmas on Saturday when Barrow are the visitors to the Impact Arena. Kick-off is 3pm.
