THE REDS ARE STAYING UP!
Dave Pursglove's match picture album here
ON a bitter sweet day for Alfreton Town, the Reds went down 2-0 at home to a very good York City side but had their Blue Square Bet Premier Division status guaranteed for another season after Hayes & Yeading lost 4-2 at Luton Town which means none of the bottom four clubs can now overtake Nicky Law's side.
In front of 1,603 Reds keeper Jon Stewart saved a Jamie Reed penalty on 48 minutes after Darran Kempson had brought the York striker down just inside the area.
City were not to be denied though and a sustained spell of pressure from the Minstermen in the second brought two goals from Matty Blair and Lanye Oyebanjo on 69 and 76 minutes respectively.
Theo Streete was the Alfreton man-of-the-match and there were 720 visiting supporters.
Alfreton Town are back in league action on Saturday when Luton Town are the visitors to the Impact Arena. Kick-off is 3pm.
