Alfreton Town fell to their heaviest home league defeat in over 28 months as Luton Town put in a top drawer performance and four goals in eight minutes early in the first half to blow the Reds away.
Nicky Law's side actually started well and had a couple of half-chances before Andre Gray was sent through to rifle home the first goal for the visitors on ten minutes.
Some fantastic pass and move football followed from the titl-chasing visitors and Paul Benson clipped home the second on 13 minutes. Just two minutes later Benson crossed for Gray to make it three.
The outstanding Luke Guttridge made it four on 18 minutes when he punished defensive hesitancy to net from an acute angle.
Alfreton boss Nicky Law sacrificed midfield man Alastair Taylor for an additional central defender and the introduction of Darran Kempson stemmed the tide of goals. Kempson's performance earned him the Reds' man-of-the-match nomination.
The Reds produced some sustained spells of pressure in the second half before conceding a fifth goal on 67 minutes when Alex Lawless fired home.
The attendance was 1,279 which included 649 from Luton.
The Reds are back in action on Tuesday night when they entertain Heanor Town in the third round of the Derbyshire Senior Cup. Kickoff is 7.45pm and there is reduced admission prices of £8 for adults and £4 concessions for the tie.
