Alfreton Town tasted defeat for the second time in three days and in highly controversial circumstances as Lincoln City emerged 2-0 winners at the Impact Arena on Saturday.
The Reds had Connor Franklin sent off after just seven minutes with match official Mr Joyce brandishing a straight red card after Franklin had appeared to have won what was nothing more than a strong 50-50 challenge with Lincoln's Dan Gray.
The exceptionally harsh decision altered the whole shape of the game but Alfreton showed plenty of fight and also had goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in outstanding form again.
The youngster was finally beaten on 41 minutes by a quality finish from Craig Hobson whose 12 yarder arrowed straight into the far top corner.
Minutes later the Reds had penalty appeals turned down when Leigh Franks was nudged over in the area then Darran Kempson saw a 12 yard shot smack against the face of the bar.
Alfreton were well in contention until the 81st minute when Imps substitute Vadaine Oliver intercepted a Kempson back header to Pickford to head the ball over the keeper and nip round him to steer into an empty net.
The defeat leaves the Reds sat just two points above the relegation places with six games to go.
The attendance was 1,189 including 456 from Lincoln. Jordan Pickford was the Reds man of the match.
Alfreton are back in action on Easter Monday when they travel to take on Southport. Kick-off is 3pm and ATFC supporters' Association transport departs at 9am. Seats can be booked by contacting Mark Thorpe on 07857 558401.
