Alfreton Town are still looking for their first league win of the season after three second-half goals by Hereford United at the Impact Arena knocked them out of their stride.
The Reds put in a very good display in the first half, forcing several fine saves from Hereford keeper Dan Hanford.
The big talking point of the first 45 minutes however, was the non award of a penalty on 20 minutes when Reds striker Paul Clayton appeared to be pushed to the ground by a combination of Hanford and a United defender.
The second half saw goals from Watkins on 55 minutes, Sean Canham on 64 from close range and a precise 16 yarder into the bottom corner on 68 minutes by Tom Nicholls.
The attendance was 690 with 213 from Hereford. The Reds man of the match was Dan Bradley.
Skipper Darran Kempson missed out with a calf injury which brought a first start of the season for Adam Quinn whilst midweek penalty scorer Ben Tomlinson was on the bench after suffering with a slight hamstring strain.
Alfreton have no midweek game before the August Bank Holiday fixtures which take them to Barrow on Saturday before a home game against division new boys Nuneaton Town on Monday. Both games kick-off at 3pm.
