Alfreton Town's six-game unbeaten run was ended by a narrow 2-0 home defeat against Grimsby Town on Tuesday night.
Nicky Law's side could count themselves very unlucky not to have gained some reward from the game as they created several good chances in each half.
In the end, two quality strikes proved the only difference. Scott Nielson despatched a curling 16-yard shot into the far top corner to give the Mariners the lead on 39 minutes but it took until the 88th minute for the visitors to seal the points when Ross Hannah rifled home an eight-yard angled drive into the bottom far corner.
The official attendance was 1,192 - not 11,000 as announced by both the BBC and SKY! There were 572 from Grimsby Town.
Theo Streete was named as the Reds man of the match.
The Reds return to action on Saturday when they travel to Kent to face Ebbsfleet United in the league. ATFCSA transport departs at 8.45am and seats can be booked by contacting Mark Thorpe on 01773 836251.
