An experimental Alfreton Town side fell to a 3-0 defeat at home against a Burnley XI on Saturday at the Impact Arena.
Nicky Law's side contained three trialists in the starting line-up and a fourth on the bench, but they were well in contention throughout and created chances in each half.
Last season's loan hero, goalkeeper Jon Stewart, proved to be an unbeatable barrier for the visitors, particularly for Nathan Arnold in the first half.
Burnley's goals came on ten minutes from Mehdi Lazaar with a ten-yard shot, 48 minutes from Joe Jackson with a near post header and on 75 minutes from Steve Hewitt whose deft touch in front of goal diverted an Adam Evans cross into the far corner.
The attendance was 366 and Nathan Arnold was named the Reds man of the match.
The Reds are next in action on Tuesday night with a short trip over the border into Nottinghamshire to face Central Midlands League side Sutton Town AFC at their Fieldings ground on Huthwaite Road in Sutton-in-Ashfield. Kick-off is 7.45pm.
