FORMER BARNET AND GRETNA MIDFIELDER JOINS REDS
ALFRETON Town have signed former Barnet, Gateshead and Blyth Spartans midfielder Nicky Deverdics.
Nicky, 24, began his career as a trainee with Newcastle United, but after making several appearances for the reserves, he was released at the end of the 2005/06 season.
Upon his release he joined Alfreton`s league rivals Gateshead, leaving to join STL Northern League side Bedlington Terriers in December 2006.
In March 2007 moved to Gretna and played six times, scoring once, as the border club clinched promotion to the Scottish Premier League.
However, in May 2008 Deverdics was part of the remaining 40 staff members who were released by Gretna.
Deverdics (pictured in Barnet colours) joined Barnet, where he spent two seasons. He made 51 appearances for the Bees where he won the 'Most Improved player' award in his first season, before being released in May 2010.
On the eve of the 2010/11 season he signed for Conference North side Blyth Spartans and he scored his first goal for them in September 2010 in a 3-0 home win over Worcester City.
Deverdics joined Icelandic team BÍ/Bolungarvík in May 2011 and then upon his return to England, he signed for Northern League division two outfit Team Northumbria in January 2012.
As well as playing in central midfield, he has also filled both left midfield and left back roles.
Nicky will wear squad number 17.
