A FIRST AWAY GAME IN FA CUP FIRST ROUND

A FIRST AWAY GAME IN FA CUP FIRST ROUND

Monday Oct 22, 2012

Thanks go to Bill Draper who has come up with some interesting Alfreton Town FA Cup first round trivia.

Following Sunday's first round proper draw which has handed the Reds a trip to Wrexham, it will be the first time in six first round proper appearances that Alfreton have been drawn away.

Wrexham will be the furthest south (even though it's due west) that the Reds will have travelled for a tie in the 'proper' stages.

The only other occasion that Alfreton played an FA Cup tie in Wales was 25 years ago on October 13th, 1987, in a third qualifying round replay, when Dave Wilton infamously missed a sitter in virtual darkness (after a late arrival) right at the end and the Reds lost 1-0 at Colwyn Bay.

The tie with Wrexham will be the first time Alfreton have been drawn against a club in the same division as them at this stage.

The game at Wrexham will be the first time Alfreton will not have played in their usual red colours in the first round proper, replays included.
