Alfreton Town pulled off a fantastic 4-2 FA Cup with Budweiser first round proper win at Wrexham which also yielded them £18,000 in prize money.
And the win was achieved out of adversity. Nicky Law's side went into the tie without striker Anthony Wilson who has joined Evo-Stik League Premier Division Leaders North Ferriby United on a month's loan (he scored twice on his debut), left-back Connor Franklin (out with an ankle injury) and skipper and central defender Darran Kempson (ruled out with a knee injury) and had both Dan Bradley and Ben Tomlinson sent off in the last half-hour for two cautionable offences.
And there was the worst possible start when the Reds conceded a penalty after just 15 seconds of the kick-off, Anton Brown adjudged to have fouled Danny Wright and Neil Ashton cracked Wrexham ahead.
Alfreton equalised on 27 minutes when Paul Clayton bundled the ball in after home keeper Joslain Mayebi failed to hold a Josh Law free kick.
The Reds went in front on the hour-mark after home keeper Mayebi was sent off for violent conduct against Leigh Franks and Dan Bradley beat substitute keeper Coughlin from the penalty spot. Unfortunately, Bradley picked up a second yellow card for a foul less than two minutes later and was dismissed.
Unperturbed, Alfreton made it 3-1 on 79 minutes when Ben Tomlinson netted for the third game in a row and after Danny Wright had pulled one back on 85, Tomlinson notched his second of the tie on 90 minutes before he too picked up a second yellow card and was sent off.
The Reds man-of-the-match was Jon Stewart. The attendance was 4,209 including 129 from Alfreton.
The Reds are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Gateshead in Blue Square Bet Premier Division action.
