Tamworth v Alfreton Town

Tamworth v Alfreton Town

Thursday Oct 19, 2017

The Reds will be looking to get back to winning ways as they resume Vanarama National League North action with a visit to the EST Electrical Services Stadium (formerly know as the Lamb) to take on Tamworth, managed by Andy Morrell. Kick off 3pm.

Tamworth currently lie in 8th position in the Vanarama National League table, one point and one place outside the play-offs. They have won five of their seven home league games to date.

The Reds have slipped down to 15th in the National League North after the 2-0 home defeat to Chorley last time out, the Reds have lost three games in a row in all competitions after previous defeats including Stourbridge (FA Cup) and Spennymoor. Reds Boss John McDermott will be looking to get back on track on Saturday.

Their last game, like Alfreton was also two weeks ago; when they were suprisingly beaten 2-1 at home by Gainsborough Trinity. Tamworth were well on top in the first half and led through a Reece Styche goal. The visitors  came back strongly in the second period to take the points with goals from former Red, Nathan Jarman on 48 minutes and substitute Bradley Wells seven minutes from time.

The Tamworth side was: Jezeph, Burns, Morley, Deeney, Jones, Lane, Powell, Verma, Styche, Upton, Knights.

Subs: M. Curley, Shaw, Strong, Reid, Taylor.

Let's hope we can much improve on last season's meetings. We were beaten 5-2 at the Impact Arena having led 2-1 with twenty minutes left. Our goals comiing from Andy Monkhouse and Dan Bradley.

Monkhouse was on target again in the return fixture with an 87th minute consolation goal as we were soundly beaten 4-1.

Bill Draper informs us of better times, most notably two years ago in an FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round game when we came from 0-2 down to win 3-2 with goals from Jamie Jackson, a Jordan Robertson penalty and John Johnstone.

Back in 2007, our visit to the Lamb saw Nicky Law gain his first win as the new Reds boss, 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Scott Richards.

Reds Boss John McDermott:

"It's been a good week of training, it has helped us with different things and its allowed us an extra week of fitness and to get bodies back which have been massive for us."

"We have players available to us which we have missed and it's given the players a chance to get back to full fitness. The extra day in the week has helped also. It will be a tough game on Saturday, they are doing very well, they will be organised. It will be a game between two good footballing sides and they move the ball well."

"We need to make sure we are back to where we want to be and we express ourselves, we want to be back in the mix and we have worked on certain things this week. We will head there and aim to win it, we are excited and looking forward to be back playing again, this week has been good for us."
