REDS ANNOUNCE SECOND NEW SIGNING

Wednesday Jun 4, 2014

FORMER KIDDERMINSTER AND TAMWORTH DEFENDER COURTNEY JOINS

Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law has brought his second new signing of the closed season to the Impact Arena.
Hot on the heels of signing Nathan Hicks, an attacking midfield player with bags of potential from Leamington, the Reds boss has quickly followed up by persuading experienced former York City, Kidderminster Harriers and Tamworth defender Duane Courtney to join the club.
Courtney, 29, arrives with a very good pedigree. He is an athletic and versatile right-back who has also played in central defence and at left-back.
Duane began his career with Derby County's youth system as a schoolboy and went on to play for Birmingham City as a trainee.
He moved on to AFC Telford United where he was named their player of the season before joining Burnley for £25,000 where he made eight first team appearances.
After being released by the Clarets, he joined Welsh Premier League champions The New Saints where he had three seasons before moving back to England to join Kidderminster Harriers and then York City.
He was released by the Minstermen and moved to Tamworth where he has played for the past four seasons, being named Manager's, Players and Supporters' player of the year in the 2012/13 season.
Pre-season friendly added
Meanwhile, Alfreton have added a fourth pre-season friendly home game to their itinerary ahead of the 2014/15 campaign. Last season's League One play off final winners Rotherham United will provide very attractive opposition when their first team squad visits the Impact Arena on Tuesday, July 29th.
The fixture has a 7.30pm kick-off.
