Preview: Hereford v Alfreton Town

Friday Nov 30, 2018

Alfreton Town return to league action with a crucial National League North fixture against Hereford at Edgar Street, kick off is 3pm.

After the FA Trophy upset against Farsley last Saturday and with the Buxton fixture in the Derbyshire Senior Cup on Tuesday night postponed, the Reds head to Hereford tomorrow in search of a huge three points after an uncharacteristic display last weekend.

After starting the game reasonably well, Farsley took the lead after 25 minutes before adding a second just before the break. The first goal seemed to suck the belief out of Alfreton who struggled to muster a response both after the first and second goals and then in the second period.

The Reds lacked creativity, urgency and it was another damaging defeat for Billy Heath and the confidence of the side. It's been a tough spell for the Reds, despite beating Nuneaton in the league ten days ago, we have registered just one win in our last eight games in all competitions.

With Alfreton needing to find confidence and belief, results have taken a slide for Billy Heath who will be eager for a reaction tonight and his frustration of not being able to field the same eleven for each game will be another issue again in upcoming games, after Luke Shiels' sending off against Leamington.

Its a crucial stage in the season for Alfreton and with the quality of the squad and the ambitions to at least be pushing for the play off positions in the National League North, the Reds will need to get back to confidence as quick as possible to turn the season back into the positive direction.

Hereford head into tomorrow's game sitting in 21st place in the National League North with 15 points from 18 games. Thier playing record stands at: P18, W3, D6, L9.

After parting ways with previous manager Peter Beadle in September, who guided the club into the National League North after three promotions in three years, the side were in 12th spot at the time with 11 points from the opening eight games.

New manager Marc Richards took the reigns and has seen difficult results for the Bulls who head into tomorrow's fixture looking to build on a good 3-1 win at home to FC United in the FA Trophy last Saturday.

League form has seen struggles with just three league wins so far this season, the Bulls are currently 14 games without a win in the league, with their last three points being against Leamington (2-1) back in August, their only home league win so far.

A joint league lowest of 15 goals scored also is another stat Hereford will be looking to change in what's been a difficult start to the campaign for one of the divisions new sides.

It will be a massive battle at Edgar Street as both sides who are struggling for form clash in vitally important encounter tomorrow afternoon.
