Alfreton Town host relegation threatened FC United of Manchester on Saturday afternoon in our penultimate home game in the National League North, kick off is 3pm at the Impact Arena.

The Reds fell to a lacklustre 3-1 defeat at Leamington last weekend which did see us dominate the opening half an hour at the Phillips 66 Stadium. Alfreton bossed the ball, produced some fantastic build up play and were looking too good for the hosts in that first half an hour.

We deservedly took the lead when Jordan Sinnott reacted first after a loose ball in the box which Leamington failed to clear from James Clifton's ball in. Sinnott smashing the ball into the far corner to give us the perfect start. But strangely we never kicked on from this moment, Richard Peniket had a diving header saved point blank but soon our discipline went which allowed set piece after set piece for Leamington and the momentum swung.

The Brakes equalised with a finish from close range before the second half saw the Reds come completely off the boil as our attack dried up and we never re-found the dominance of the opening 25 of the first half. The Brakes soon took the lead with a well taken finish from Murphy in the box before Edwards headed home from a yard to seal a 3-1 win.

With Alfreton firmly lodged in mid-table and in no danger of relegation, Billy Heath will be disappointed his side never kicked on from opening the scoring and in turn the opening 25 minutes was the most dangerous we looked all game.

The Reds will no doubt look to rectify the poor second half display at Leamington and produce a consistent performance for the 90 minutes, as well as ending the season as strongly as possible with these final three games, to finish as high up the table as possible.

We head into Saturday's clash with no win in our last five league games (D3, L2), this comes after going six league games unbeaten. Our last three points came at Nuneaton, in a 2-1 win back in early March.

We have lost just once (Altrincham) in our last four games at the Impact Arena and have beaten FC United at the Impact in the last two seasons (1-0 in 2017/18 and 2-1 in 2016/17).

Visitors FC United sit in 21st place in the league table with 31 points from 39 games. FC are currently in the relegation zone and are seven points from safety with just nine points remaining. The visitors will need to win on Saturday to avoid relegation at the Impact Arena.

Their current playing record stands at: P39, W7, D10, L22.

FC United have lost their last three league games without scoring a single goal and are win-less in their last five (L4, D1). Their last win came at Telford United in early March. The visitors have won just once (which was the Telford result) in their last 13 league games.

United have won just once in their last six away league games but of their seven wins in the National League North this season, six of these have been away from home.
