Preview: Darlington FC v Alfreton Town

Friday Aug 31, 2018

Alfreton Town head to Blackwell Meadows tomorrow afternoon on matchday eight in the National League North, kick off is 3pm.

The Reds are one of the divisions in form sides as we hunt for a fourth straight league win, we made it three in a row last weekend, dispatching Southport 3-1 at the Impact Arena.

Alfreton were ahead early again through Tom Platt's effort in the first half which squirmed its way through a crowded box and into the bottom corner.

Southport soon reacted after the break and had good periods of play throughout and equalised through a free kick on the left which sailed all the way into the far corner. With the Reds feeling like a re-run of the Curzon result was on the horizon, Billy Heath's side flicked the switch and a close range effort from Tom Denton and a Bobby Johnson penalty sealed the points.

It was another test of character which the Reds excelled in yet again, remaining positive, fluent and dangerous even after the Southport leveller. This trait which has become so frequent in the side, once again reaped rewards as the Reds pushed on to seal the points. The Reds only fault was the fact that they couldn't kill the game off in the first half, a similar situation in the games against Curzon Ashton, Stockport and York City.

Darlington, one of the pre season favourites for promotion, have had a difficult start to the campaign and sit in 17th place in the table. The Quakers have six points from seven and have won just one of the opening seven league games (D3, L3) a 4-2 win at Brackley on the 11th August.

Darlington have yet to win at Blackwell Meadows so far this season, losing twice and drawing once in their three home fixtures so far.

The two sides head into the fixture in contrasting form with the hosts looking to get back on track this season and register just a second three points of the season and the Reds aiming for a fourth straight league win and a third win on the spin away from home.

Billy Heath has no major injury concerns ahead of tomorrows game and is expected to have a fully fit squad to choose from.
