Preview: DSC Final: Alfreton Town v Chesterfield

Monday Apr 23, 2018

Tuesday night sees the final of the Derbyshire Senior Cup at the Impact Arena when Alfreton Town entertain Chesterfield with a 7.45pm kick off.

Alfreton have reached the final by defeating Matlock Town at the Impact Arena 1-0 in Round Two, next was a trip to New Mills when we rounded off 4-1 winners in the Quarter Finals. Ilkeston Town came next in the semi final on a snow covered pitch at the Impact Arena, we prevailed 2-0 to book our place in the final.

Chesterfield defeated Heanor Town 2-1 at the Proact Stadium in Round Two, Belper Town came next with the Spireites coming through 3-1 on penalties after a 0-0 draw at the Proact Stadium in the Quarter Finals. Chesterfield then beat Buxton 1-0 at Silverlands in their semi-final.

The last time we won the trophy was two years ago in the 2015/16 campaign. So far we have won the trophy nine times so will be looking to record our tenth win.

The only time we have met the Spireites in a competitive game was in 2003/04 in the Derbyshire Centenary Cup when we triumphed 2-0 due to an own goal from Alan O'Hare and a strike from Nick Goddard.

We head into the final having already secured safety in the National League North, a 1-0 win over FC United on Saturday thanks to Tom Platt's strike mid-way through the first half. There were fantastic scenes at the end of the game with the players and fans embracing and a sense of delight and relief that the Reds secured safety with two fantastic results at Brackley and on Saturday.

This also saw us make it back to back league wins and we will be looking for a third win in all competitions and a trophy tomorrow night.

We end the season away at Chorley this Saturday looking to end the season with a third league win in a row.

Chesterfield have had a difficult season in League Two and are rooted to the foot of the table, nine points from safety with nine points left but have worse goal difference. Although not officially relegated, the Spireites announced the departure of manager Jack Lester and backroom staff as an apparant shake up in preparation for the National League next season has already begun.

Head down for our LAST home game of this 2017/18 season and show your support which has been amazing throughout this campaign!

Admission charges for the game are as follows:

Adults £10,  Concession £6, Under 16's £3
