Preview: Altrincham v Alfreton Town

Friday Oct 12, 2018

Alfreton Town return to league action after another break due to the FA Cup, as we travel to the J Davidson Stadium to face Altrincham in the National League North, kick off is 3pm on Non League Day.

It's been another successful week in the FA Cup for the Reds who banked another £15,000 following progression past Mickleover Sports last Saturday. The Reds led 2-0 at half time thanks to goals from Jordan Sinnott and Richard Peniket, a late Sports penalty set up a tense final ten or so minutes, but Alfreton defended well and progressed into the Fourth Qualifying Round of the FA Cup.

With just 90 minutes seperating us from the First Round proper next week, attention turns back to the league where the Reds will be looking for an upturn in form.

After three straight league defeats (Bradford PA, Chorley, Guiseley), Alfreton head to Altrincham looking to change their recent league fortunes and avoid that number becoming four.

The Reds away form in the league has seen us win three of the last four away league games and including the FA Cup away trips the Reds have tasted defeat just once (Chorley) in their last six away outings in all competitions.

Although all three defeats have seen fine margins where a lack of goalscoring touch failed to see off Guiseley, mistakes cost us at Chorley and one laspe in concentration also proved vital against Bradford, the Reds will be looking to iron out mistakes and get back on the winning trail in the league.

Alty also progressed last weekend in the FA Cup after a 4-2 home win over Bradford (Park Avenue). League form has seen just one win in the last five league games although form at the J Davidson Stadium has been mixed with the hosts yet to register three points in the league at home, the two home fixtures in the FA Cup has seen two wins however.
