Preview: Alfreton Town v FC United of Manchester

Friday Apr 20, 2018

This Saturday sees the Reds take on FC United of Manchester at the Impact Arena which will be the final league home match of the season in the Vanarama National League North.

The Reds will be looking to build on last Saturday's excellent 3-1 win at high flying Brackley Town, as we look to finally cement our place in the division for next season. We inflicted a first home defeat of the season on Brackley last weekend thanks to a Chris Sharp double and a Brendon Daniels finish.

The result puts us on 46 points, three clear of relegation sitting Gainsborough Trinity with two games left to play. The 3-1 win was also our fifth game unbeaten on the road.

We head into tomorrow's fixture with just one defeat in our last four league games but if there was ever a time to turn our home form around, it's tomorrow! Home form has been a struggle for the Reds this season compared to recent strong away form, we are winless in our last five home league games (D1, L4) with our last win at the Impact coming against Tamworth back in early February.

FC United head into the fixture off the back of a 1-0 win over York City on Tuesday evening with the all important goal coming from Connor McCarthy after 61 minutes before a crowd of 1,816. This enabled them to climb to 14th place in the table with 50 points from 40 games.

FC have won two of their last three league games but have only won twice away from home in the league this season (York and Tamworth).

The FC United team on Tuesday evening was: Allinson, Senior, Fagbola, Kay, Baird, Higham, Racchi, Glynn, Linfield, Irwin, McCarthy.

Subs: Tattum, Greaves, Jones, Simoes, Basso.

When the two teams met back in November at Broadhurst Park, the Reds at one time led 2-0 with goals from Craig Westcarr and a Brendon Daniels free kick. The home side pulled a goal back on 49 minutes from Kieran Glynn, it stayed that way until the last three minutes of the game when FC United  scored twice through a Jason Gilchrist penalty and Joel Logan to take the points with the final score being 3-2 in an incredible turnaround from the hosts.

Kick-off on Saturday at the Impact Arena is 3pm, please note that segregation will be in operation with visiting supporters asked to use the Alma Street entrance.
