Reds face play-off hopefuls Telford in our final away game of the season

Alfreton Town face play-off contenders Telford United in their final away game of the season in the National League North, kick off at the New Bucks Head is 3pm.

With just a day rest for the Reds and for many sides within the division, the fixture will be a difficult one physically and not just within the challenge the Bucks pose tomorrow afternoon.

The Reds fell to a shock 3-2 home defeat to relegation threatened FC United on Saturday, a game which showed far more passion and desire from the visitors who had something still to fight for within the league compared to the already safe Reds. The Reds started well but soon FC took control and took the lead with Myers heading in at the far post from a corner.

Alfreton were not playing particularly well but soon equalised thanks to Richard Peniket's close range finish from a few yards. But the response was quick from the visitors who regained the lead thanks to Willoughby's quick reactions to finish into the empty net after Sam Ramsbottom parried Chris Sharp's low effort.

The goals continued in the first half and we equalised again thanks to Tom Allan's far post finish from a Jordan Sinnott corner. The second half saw us dominate in periods but we never took advantage of these spells and we didn't take our openings especially during these periods.

FC grabbed the points with 12 minutes to go when Baird headed home at the far post to cap off a close but deserved win for the visitors whose determination to get a result for their survival ambitions, outweighed the Reds performance which lacked fluidity on home soil with an end of season feel to the display.

Alfreton's home form has been poor throughout the season with FC handing us a ninth home defeat of the season and it's these performances which have frustrated the home faithful and in turn cost us bucket loads of three points; which if our home form was better, the Reds could have been much further up the table.

We head to the New Bucks Head tomorrow with our success on the road far better then at the Impact this season although our current form is far from impressive as we enter the last two games of the National league North season. The Reds head to Telford with no win in their last six league games (D3, L3), this includes back to back league defeats and three defeats in our last four. We'll be looking to avoid a third league defeat in a row tomorrow afternoon.

Alfreton are 21st in the form table with just two points picked up in our last five, with 15 goals conceded during this period. Only Curzon Ashton have worse form over the last five games.

The Reds away form has been a highlight of the season as we aim for a ninth away win of the season, we have tasted defeat on the road just once (Leamington) in our last five away league games.

Alfreton will also take comfort in their record against Telford at the New Bucks Head with the Reds last tasting defeat there back in 2011. We also came away with three points last season in a 2-1 win.

Telford United sit in the final play off spot of seventh in the league table with 64 points from 40 games. The Bucks are a point clear of Blyth and four clear of Chester as they look to secure a spot in the play-offs in these last two games.

Their current playing record stands at: P40, W17, D13, L10.

Telford are unbeaten in their last six league games although they have only won twice in this run, with four draws. Their last outing was a 1-1 draw at Hereford on Saturday and 19 league goal striker Dan Udoh is certainly the danger man for the Bucks.

The Bucks are very impressive at home and sit fourth in the home form table, they have lost just once in their last six at home and have only lost three times at the New Bucks Head in the NLN (FC United, Kidderminster and Bradford PA).

Last Meeting:

Alfreton Town 1-1 AFC Telford United (Saturday 3rd November 2018): A second half Jordan Sinnott penalty salvaged another draw for the Reds in a battling point against Telford United which saw two red cards, Dan Udoh was sent off for the Bucks before Reece Styche was sent off mid-way through the second half. Sutton would head the visitors in front before Sinnott equalised.
