Moyses: 'We let ourselves down'

Moyses: 'We let ourselves down'

Thursday Mar 22, 2018

Reds boss Chris Moyses reflects back on Tuesday night's home defeat to Telford United and looks ahead to our trip to Southport on Saturday.

The Reds lost a crucial encounter on Tuesday, which leaves us just a point above the relegation zone in a performance which lacked energy, tempo and left fans, players and management frustrated and disappointed. The Reds struggled to create and looked off the pace and only started to create dangerous chances in the final five minutes. We slipped to defeat and now need to pick up results quickly to avoid sinking further into trouble.

The Gaffer, said:

"It was bitterly disappointing to lose the game on Tuesday night, it was gutting and it was a game we wanted something from. I think the problem was that when you defend like that and it's a simple header and we gave it straight back to them on the edge of the box and they stroked it in. As a group we were not good enough, we let ourselves down and I can only apologise to the fans for that."

"We took things for granted a little and we didn't get off them all and we need to regroup and get ourselves ready because we are in a dog fight, we are in a scrap."

On the Reds performance being suprisingly flat:

"Ten days without a game wasn't easy for us, we train but its not the same as playing games and that's caused us problems and it showed on Tuesday. It was flat and that break between fixtures seemed to be a factor. It was lacklustre and I dont want to be associated with teams like that, all my teams show character, guts, determination and we were wanting in those departments in some areas tonight. We have to improve."

On current form which has seen the Reds not win in the last five and pick up just two points across that period:

"It's poor form, very poor. I take full responsibility and we have to regroup and we are footballers. We go to work on a Saturday and a Tuesday and we have to start winning games of football. Few teams below us have games in hand and thats also concerning for us, we looked at all the scenarios but we have to start winning."

On team selection:

"We took a view on it from the Bradford PA game, we moved Lee Beevers to right back and he did okay there and he filled in. Ned Wagner is a centre half so he couldn't have fitted there, he should be back for us on Saturday. We conceded a few down the right hand side at BPA, so we but Beevs in there. Bradley Wood isn't available to us at the moment so we have to adjust and tweak things but we need to react on Saturday and we will pick the right team for that game."

On producing a reaction at Southport on Saturday:

"That's what we are about, we need to lift ourselves up, it's about being men and that's what men do. We regroup, we go again. It's another tough game, they are in fine form at home and doing really well at the moment. We will go there as always with a game plan, we need to prove to ourselves that we can do okay and we need to start winning games again and picking up points."
