Alfreton were eventually knocked out of the Derbyshire Senior Cup at the semi-final stage last night after a thrilling game ended 3-3 at Causeway Lane Matlock.
The Reds took a two goal lead inside the first twenty minutes thorough an excellent finish by Craig Westcarr for his 20th goal of the season followed by a second from Tom Allen.
Matlock's on-loan striker Marcus Dinanga pulling one back after 35 minutes. The second half saw him find the net twice more after 68 minutes and an 82nd minute penalty to complete his hat-rick and put the Gladiators 3-2 up.
After Alfreton had a goal disallowed they pulled the score back to 3-3 with a Craig Westcarr penalty on 86 minutes.
There was no extra time, with the game going straight to a penalty shoot out which Matlock won 5-4. Both sides missed two penalties out of their allocated five. The Reds had a chance to seal the tie in sudden death but failed so the Gladiators went through where they will meet Gresley FC in the final who suprisingly defeated Buxton 3-0 in the other semi-final.
