Macca: 'We were electric'

Macca: 'We were electric'

Monday Sep 11, 2017

Alfreton Town manager John McDermott gives his thoughts after Saturday's 4-1 win over Gainsborough Trinity and looks ahead to tomorrow's visit of Brackley Town.

Four goals in the 25 first half minutes from Tom Platt, Craig Westcarr, Ricky German and Brendon Daniels ensured a dominant and controlled victory. Despite conceding late on in the second half, the Reds stretched their unbeaten run to four games; in turn sealing a third win in four outings.

Macca spoke to Amar Sharma:

"I thought we were fantastic in the first 45 minutes, we were electric to be honest and we can beat anyone playing like that. Everyone was on it from number 1 to 11, they were on the top of their game. We moved the ball well, we passed it well and looked a threat every time we went forward."

"We totally bossed the game and 4-0 probably flattered them, we could have had more but I was really pleased and everyone did their jobs. It was a fluent performance, great interchanges with certain players and it was breathtaking at times. I said to the lads thats how we want to play, thats how we are going to play and it's been in them from the first day we came in."

"We made additions and its given us brightness and sharpness and bravery in the final third to create chances. We said at half time, nothing is won at half time and although the game was gone at that point, I wanted us to keep pressing and really give them a good hiding."

The second half saw limited chances and a foot off the pedal somewhat from the Reds and Macca recognised a lack of urgency:

"We didn't move it quick enough second half, we didn't take enough chances and our forwards were too spread apart and we were trying to get it into feet, tried rotating things around but we wasn't moving the ball quick enough."

"We have to do better in those moments and I've been in games where you have already won it but what was disappointing was that they had ten men and they scored! And the way I see we've been beat 1-0 that second half."

"We need to work on that and I said to the boys to pick our men up and to clear the ball better and communicate better."

The Reds have picked up 10 points from a possible 12 and next face Brackley tomorrow night, Macca was ready for a tough test:

"We've gained ten points out of the last 12, the lads have been fantastic and we move on to Brackley now. If we are going to get anything from the game and look to beat them; we have to deliver the first 45 minutes for 90 and look to be ruthless in those minutes."

"We can't deliver the second half performance and I want to be at their throats, we need to start well and put in the performance from Gainsborough into tomorrow. We are confident, very happy, playing good football and entertaining and we are heading in the right direction."

Alfreton v Brackley Town kicks off at 7.45pm tomorrow evening.
