Macca: 'It was great preparation for Saturday'

Wednesday Aug 2, 2017

Reds Boss John McDermott was left pleased after Alfreton's dominant 6-1 win at neighbours Long Eaton United last night in the final pre season friendly before the new season.

The Reds goals came from Billy Whitehouse, Chris Sharp, Brad McGowan, Brody Robertson, a Trialist and Ryan Jennings; as the Reds final warm up for the opening game of the season was finished in style.

John said:

"The pitch was very good, slightly sticky in areas but it was a good pitch for that level. They put a young side out which were very athletic, they had good legs so they stretched us at times which is what we needed."

"I wanted us to get the football going and we did exactly that, we looked fantasic in areas, looked strong on the ball and we tested them throughout and limited them to little chances."

"It was perfect preparation for Saturday against Blyth. The first half we had some excellent build up play and the second half we changed the team around and they executed the plan equally well. It paid off brilliantly, we were sharp, clever and we punished them. It was good for our confidence going forward."

"It's been a exellent pre season, the squad is fully fit, fitness levels are good and we've come through unscaved. We all can't wait for Saturday."

Alfreton Town v Blyth Spartans in the opening day of the National League North season kicks off at 3pm at the Impact Arena.
