Long Eaton United 1-6 Alfreton Town

Wednesday Aug 2, 2017

The Reds completed their pre-season schedule with a comprehensive win at Long Eaton United last night (Tuesday).

Alfreton dominated the game against plucky opponents who never gave up, scoring a late consolation goal.

Trialist Billy Whitehouse headed home the opening goal in the first minute of the game. The second came just before half time when Chris Sharp fired low into the bottom corner.

Alfreton made wholesale changes at half-time. Brad McGowan headed the Reds into a three goal lead four minutes into the second period. It was four after 61 minutes when Brody Robertson broke free and fired past the home goalkeeper.

Another Trialist made it five converting Morgan Brough's low cross a minute later, before Ryan Jennings played a neat one-two in the box with Robertson before finishing low into the corner to make it six on 75 minutes.

The home side's late consolation goal was a fine strike beating Springthorpe after hitting the post and going in.

The real action begins on Saturday when Blyth Spartans visit the Impact Arena for the opening game in National League North season 2017/18.
