LAW PRAISE FOR GREAT PERFORMANCE

LAW PRAISE FOR GREAT PERFORMANCE

Sunday Sep 15, 2013

Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law praised his side for a putting in a commanding performance in the 1-0 win at Macclesfield Town which only lacked further goals.

He reflected: "I was pleased with the performance and thought we dominated the game - it should have been a landslide - as l've said before you can't keep missing chances like we're missing there.

"lt could have been six or seven nil - with all due respect to Macclesfield it could have been one of those embarrassing scorelines - but as long as you're not putting the ball in the net and hitting the bar from open goals a yard away teams have got a chance.

"That gives them hope and the more we go on the more we have to defend and we shouldn't have been in that situation.

"l've just told the players that was a great performance, we've dominated the game - complete control - but we gave them hope because we didn't kill them off.

"I think everyone's defended well today and we've played some good stuff, but (it's) frustrating that we didn't put that second, third, fourth, fifth goal in, but we've come away with a 1-0 win and we're delighted."

Asked to comment on the late arrival and lack of warm up, the Reds boss quipped: "l think we'll arrive 15 minutes before the kick-off for all games in future. There was an accident on the M6 but it was a bit like a sight-seeing tour - we went up hill and down dale, but nevertheless we had a great start to the game so it didn't seem to do any harm."

Advised that his team had gone into fifth spot and asked to comment he ended; "If it had been April l would be excited, but l am realistic - we can't afford many more injuries and the squad is getting a bit thin - all we can do is keep winning and pushing the boundaries.
"This is our best position since before the season started when we were top on alphabetical order!"
