Gainsborough Trinity 0 Alfreton Town 2

Gainsborough Trinity 0 Alfreton Town 2

Sunday Feb 5, 2017

The Reds secured a vital win over fellow strugglers Gainsborough in what was Nicky Law's final match in charge before moving on to a new role at Burnley FC.

Both Alfreton's goals came from leading scorer Craig Westcarr in tne 8th and 59th minutes. His first goal came after a strong run by Mark Shelton led to a flick by Tom Allan, that was put away by Westcarr at the second attempt. His second came after a mistake by Trinity's Ioan Evans.

The home side's best spell came just after the interval, but the Reds were more than worthy of the win, with Mark Shelton having another excellent game in midfield.

This win took Alfreton up to 16th place in the table but still only four points above the drop-zone. In completing the double over Trinity the Reds moved ahead of them in the table.

The game ended in emotional scenes with all the Red's fans shaking Nicky Law's hand and wishing him all the best for the future after a highly successful ten years at the Impact Arena.
