FC Halifax Town 1 Alfreton Town 0
Sunday Apr 9, 2017
Alfreton lost their fourth match in a row going down 1-0 at the Shay, home of play-off chasing FC Halifax Town.
The Reds were mot able to replicate their 1-0 success at the Impact Arena over the Shaymen from a few weeks ago. The first half was uneventful with little in the way of goal-mouth action although Wes Atkinson went close for the visitors inside the first five minutes, when his drive just cleared the bar.
The second half saw Halifax apply lots of pressure. They were finally rewarded in the 61st minute, when former Red, Tom Denton met a Jordan Sinnott corner with a trademark towering header to net his 18th goal of the season.
Halifax with their strength and physicality have hit form at the right time as they look to consolidate their place in the play-off places. The Reds did well to frustrate them but the goals have dried up having now not found the net in their last four outings. They remain 18th in the Vanarama National League North table, still nine points above the relegation zone.
The busy Easter programme now awaits with Alfreton facing two difficult games at home to Darlington this coming Saturday, followed by the relatively short trip to Tamworth on Easter Monday.
