FC United of Manchester v Alfreton Town

FC United of Manchester v Alfreton Town

Sunday Nov 12, 2017

The Reds will hoping for some better luck when travelling to Broadhurst Park this coming Tuesday for a Vanarama National League North encounter, kick-off 7.45 pm.

The Reds have narrowly lost their last three games by a single goal to three of the division's top sides who are all full time. Alfreton have now reached a critical stage of the season lying in 16th place in the table, four points above the relegation zone; but only six points from the play-off positions.

FC United of Manchester are on a good home run having won their last five competitive games at Broadhurst Park, the last one being on Saturday when they defeated AFC Telford United 3-1. Telford took an early lead when FC United keeper Lloyd Allinson fumbled a long range strike from Henry Cowans.

The hosts were level on 28 minutes with a smart finish from their new temporary player-manager, Tom Greaves. The second half saw FC United take the three points to move them out of the drop zone with two goals from Jason Gilchrist the second a sublime chip from 35 yards over Telford keeper Jasbir Singh.

The FC United of Manchester Team was: Lloyd Allinson, Joel Senior, Jordan Fagbola, Scott Kay (C), Matthew Hughes, Sam Baird, Kieran Flynn, Michael Jones, Tom Greaves, Jason Gilchrist, Joel Logan.

Subs: Zac Corbett, Craig Lindfield, Tyrell Palmer, Connor McCarthy, Steven Irwin.

Alfreton have played FC United four times since our demotion back into National League North and their promotion into it.

Season 2015-16 saw us win 3-1 at Broadhurst Park but lose 1-0 at the Impact Arena.

Last season saw an exciting game at Broadhurst Park were we fought back from 3-0 down after 37 minutes to level the scores with a brace from Adam Smith and a goal from Brad McGowan only to concede an 81st minute goal by Luke Ashworth to lose 4-3.

We fared much better in the return game at the Impact Arena, winning 2-1 with goals from Sam Smith and Wes Atkinson.
