FA honour former Reds centre back Dick Bate

FA honour former Reds centre back Dick Bate

Wednesday Aug 29, 2018

Dick Bate, our former star centre half, has had pitch number 10 named after him at St George's Park in honour of the work he carried out for the FA in a coaching capacity for many years.

The FA have named Pitch 10 'the Dick Bate Pitch' in memory of his sad passing away in April of this year.

Dick figured in our marathon 1969/70 FA Cup tie against Barrow and was a king-pin in our defence for three seasons.

He scored on his debut for the Reds 50 years ago in a 2-1 win over Scunthorpe United Reserves in a Midland League game at the Old Show Ground on March 12th 1968. He went on to make 125 appearances for the Reds, until April 1971.

Thank you to Bill Draper, who was at the aformentioned Scunthorpe game, for the information on Dick's involvement with the Reds.
