FA Youth Cup Exit

FA Youth Cup Exit

Sunday Oct 22, 2017

Alfreton Town's Academy side's FA Youth Cup good run came to an end in the Third Qualifying Round as a result of 2-0 defeat on the artificial surface at Tamworth FC on Friday night.

The first half was fairly even with the Red's youngsters having a possible penalty turned down when a break by Morgan Brough saw him brought down right on the edge of the penalty area, the referee awarding  the free-kick outside the box.

The home side played the more controlled football after the break taking the lead from Ethan Hetherington, the assistant referee judging the ball to have ctossed the line after a goal-mouth scramble. The Reds then faced an uphill battle when Zia Douglas was dismissed three minutes later for a second yellow card.

The ten men battled well but conceded a killer second goal forced home by Junior Mpofu after 89 minutes, giving Tamworth an away tie in the First Round proper at Dunkirk FC or AFC Rushden and Diamonds.
