Read our report as the Reds eased into the DSC Semi Final last night at New Mills.

Alfreton Town cruised into the semi-finals of the Derbyshire Senior Cup when they swept aside the challenge of New Mills on Tuesday night, setting up a home tie with llkeston Town next month.

Frank Mulhern led the charge with a brace, aided and abetted by Ryan Jennings and Tom Allan, while both Craig Disley and Mulhern were denied by the woodwork in a dominant first half.

Just as they had at North Ferriby three days earlier the Reds held a 3-0 interval lead with a man advantage, this time after Dennis Sherriff had been sent off for lashing out at Bradley Wood, and to further compare the two games there was an outstanding debut for a central defender.

With Notts County loanee Pierce Bird having caught the eye on Saturday it was the turn of Luis Morrison to come into the side, the former Arsenal youth player making his first Reds' appearance despite being signed on before the start of the season.

Morrison was one of six changes as manager John McDermott shuffled the pack, enabling fringe players to gain much needed playing time, and the outcome was rarely in doubt despite a treacherous pitch with the ball refusing to bounce in one of the heavy goalmouths.

Sam Topliss sent Andre Johnson down the right to set up Mulhern for a crisp finish from just outside the area to open the scoring in the 18th minute, Mulhern stabbing home his second goal six minutes later from close range from a Noel Burdett cross.

Home keeper Liam Flynn made three incredible saves to thwart Jennings, Johnson and Craig Disley between the 35th and 37th minutes, but could not prevent Jennings from crashing home a half-volley from 18 yards with the aid of an upright just moments later.

Eleven minutes after the break Allan took a return pass from Burdett to slide the ball home from an angle and Alfreton were comfortably in control at 4-0, but the hosts enjoyed their best spell late in the game with Nathan Neequaye hammering a volley past Chris Elliott on 78 minutes before missing an even easier chance a couple of minutes later.
