Blyth Spartans v Alfreton Town

Blyth Spartans v Alfreton Town

Wednesday Dec 6, 2017

This Saturday Alfreton Town make the long trip north to take on Blyth Spartans in the Vanarama National League North, looking to improve on last week's disappointing result at home to Bradford Park Avenue.

Blyth currently sit 4th in the table with a playing record of Played 20; Won 12, Drawn 0, Lost 8, Points 36.

One of their losses came on the opening day of the season when an excellent display from the Reds secured a 2-0 victory courtesy of goals from Luke Shiels after 40 minutes and Andre Johnson on 65 minutes. After a slow start to the season, Spartans have climbed the table.

Blyth have won two of their last three leagues games and four of their last five in all competitions. We head to Croft Park where the hosts have only lost once in their last six games at home in all competitions.

Last week saw them unlucky to go down to a 1-0 defeat at Croft Park to league leaders, Salford City. Their first defeat at home since Shaw Lane claimed an FA Cup victory back in mid September. The all important goal coming from Salford's Jack Redshaw after 36 minutes before a good crowd of 1,040.

The Blyth Spartans team was: Jameson, Atkinson, Buddle, Hutchinson, Liddle, Rivers, Hopson, Teid, Mullen, Dale, Maguire.

Subs: Mullen, Green, Rutherford, Watson, MacDonald.

The Reds head into the fixture off the back of a mid-week Derbyshire Senior Cup 1-0 victory over rivals Matlock Town. It was the Reds first home win since early September and first clean sheet since late August. We head into the fixture having lost five of our last six league games but our last away outing ended in a 2-1 win as we claimed three points at Telford United.

The Reds will be looking for much needed points and to gain momentum once again following Tuesday's cup win.

Bill Draper informs us that we have been victorious on two occasions at Croft Park. The first time was on the 22nd of November 2008 when we won an exciting encounter 4-3 in the 3rd Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy thanks to goals from Josh Law (pen), Paul Clayton 2 and Liam Hearn.

The second time saw us win 4-1 during our Conference North Championship winning season on August 28th 2010, when our scorers were Jake Moult 2 (1 pen), Matt Wilson and Liam Hearn (pen).

Admission to Saturday's game is Adults £12, Concessions £6.

Anyone wishing to sit in the Port of Blyth stand will be charged a further £2.

Matchday Programme: £2

Kick-off is 3pm and the Supporter's Association transport leaves the Impact Arena at 8.30am. Anyone interested please call Mark Thorpe on 07857558401.
