Alfreton Town v Gainsborough Trinity

Alfreton Town v Gainsborough Trinity

Friday Sep 8, 2017

Tomorrow sees the Reds take on familiar opponents Gainsborough Trinity in the Vanarama National League North at the Impact Arena kick off 3pm.

Alfreton will be looking to extend their good run of form that has seen them collect seven points from their last three games, the Reds will be looking to make it four games unbeaten when Trinity arrive at the Impact Arena. Three points on Saturday could also take the Reds into the play-off positions.

Gainsborough currently lie 19th in the table having gained seven points so far. They had an excellent result last Saturday taking a point from a 1-1 draw at Spennymoor Town. On Tuesday they were brought down to earth suffering a 0-3 home reversal to Bradford Park Avenue. Former Red, Nathan Jarman was dismissed after 76 minutes.

THe Gainsborough team for the game at Spennymoor was: Ravas, Richards, Storey, Collins, Stainfield, Jacklin, Wafula, Simmons, Jarman and Worsfold

Subs: Wells, Jones, Clarke, Gatter, Gordon

Last season the teams met four times. In the league we won 4-0 at the Impact Arena last September, with goals from Craig Westcarr in the second minute, a double from Dan Bradley on 5 and 33 minutes and a goal from substitute Sam Smith five minutes from time.

The return game in North Lincolnshire proved to be Nicky Law's last game in charge. We gave him plenty to smile about with a 2-0 win courtesy of a brace from Craig Westcarr.

We also played them twice in rhe FA Trophy winning the replay 4-1 at the Impact Arena after forcing a 0-0 draw at their Martin and Co Arena.

Bill Draper's memory bank takes us back to an FA Trophy meeting between the two sides in the First Qualifying Round on the 20th of October 1984.

The tie ended 2-2 at the Town Ground with Mark Cox and Paul Haycock on target for the Reds.

The replay took place on the 23rd of October at Northholme. This finished 3-3 after extra time with Alfreton's goals coming from Mark Cox and a brace from Ricky Greenhough.

The second replay was back at the Town Ground on October the 29th,  the Reds emerging as 4-0 winners with goals from Mark Cox, another brace from Ricky Greenhough and Trevor Jones.

Alfreton fielded the same ten outfield players for all three games they were :  Ken Shaw, Dave Markham, John Partridge, Stuart Hibbert, John Shirt, Colin Prophett, Jon Whiteley, Mark Cox, Rick Greenhough and Trevor Jones.

The number 11 shirt was worn by Dave Collins, Paul Haycock and Dave Redfearn respectively, with Haycock coming off the bench to score in the first game.
