Alfreton Town v Boston United

Alfreton Town v Boston United

Tuesday Dec 19, 2017

After a two week break the Reds will be looking forward to getting back into action when Boston United visit the Impact Arena for a Vanarama National League North encounter this coming Saturday kick-off 3pm.

Alfreton are in urgent need of points over the forth-coming holiday period as they lie dangerously close to the relegation zone.

The Pilgrims are in the lower reaches of the table themselves currently lying 18th, three places but only one point below the Reds.

Their current playing record reads, Played 21, Won 6, Drawn 4, Lost 11, Points 22.

The Pilgrims have picked up form in a crucial portion of the season and have won their last two league games. Boston have struggled in their recent away form in the league and have won just once in their last six away visits.

Last Saturday saw them gain a valuable three points, under new manager, former Shaw Lane boss Craig Elliott with a 3-2 home win over Southport. The Pilgrims having taken the lead through a Hemmings penalty found themselves 2-1 down with ten minutes to go, only to turn the result around with goals from substitute, Kabongo Tshimanga after 80 minutes and a header from former Red Brad McGowan two minutes from time.

The Boston United line up was: Willis, Clifton, Beatson, McGowan, Curry, Rollins, Abbott, Keane, Hemmings, Smith, Thompson.

Subs: Thanoj, Brogan, Tshimanga, Walker, Stabana.

The Reds will be looking to overturn a 3-1 defeat at York Street earlier in the season where our goal came from Craig Wesrcarr. The Pilgrim's goals were scored by Mason Warren, Jordan Keane and Greg Smith.

Last season saw Alfreton come out on top 1-0 at the Impact Arena thanks to a 41st minute goal from Liam Hearn.

The Reds head into the fixture after a 1-0 win over Matlock Town in the Derbyshire Senior Cup two weeks ago, however league form has taken a slide in rcent months with the Reds slipping closer to the relegation scrap.

Alfreton's 1-0 win over Matlock was our first win at the Impact Arena in three months and first clean sheet since August as the Reds look for much needed points and momentum to climb back up the table.

Reds Boss John McDermott:

“Yeah we haven’t had a fixture for a few weeks but the lads are looking good, we are in high spirits and are really looking forward to getting back out there and playing the football we want to play.”

“It’s going to be a tough game, we lost the reverse at their place and they will make it difficult for us. It’s a big three points for both sides but the lads look the best I’ve seen them train and they look sharp. We can’t wait to get going and get points back on the board.”
