Alfreton Town 0-2 Mansfield Town

Alfreton Town 0-2 Mansfield Town

Monday Jul 31, 2017

As the final preparations for the new campaign draw to a close, manager John Mcdermott is delighted with Town's progress, most recently testing a strong Mansfield Town squad on Saturday at the Impact Arena.

For much of the game the Reds defended resolutely against strong opposition, whislt posing threats themselves, and it took a mass substitution of ten players midway through the second half to ease the Stags into a winning position.

Prior to that the Stags were kept at bay by some gritty defending backed up by some excellent goalkeeping by the Red's Chris Elliott.

The ten fresh substitutions on 64 minutes gave Mansfield impetus and they opened the scoring through a good finish into the far corner by Danny Rose with ten minutes remaining. Former Barnsley favourite Jacob Mellis threaded his way through the Red's defence to score a fine second after 87 minutes.

Attendance : 735

Alfreton now move onto their final pre-season friendly to take on Long Eaton United at Grange Park tomorrow (Tuesday, August 1st) kicking off at 7-45 pm.
