Alfreton Town 0 Darlington 1883 3
Sunday Apr 16, 2017
Alfreton lost their fifth Vanarama National League North game in a row and have also failed to score in those games when Darlington were 3-0 winners at the Impact Arena last Saturday.
Alfreton had a number of injuries and the visitors had also recently learnt that they could not compete in the end of season play-offs due to their Blackwell Meadows ground not having the required number of covered seats.
The visitors made a good start hitting the woodwork twice in the opening ten minutes. Alfreton thought they had taken the lead on 21 minutes through Callum McFadzean, but his close range effort was ruled out for offside.
The deadlock was broken just after the thirty minute mark when Nathan Cartman ran onto a long through ball and slotted past Fabian Spiess.
The Quakers doubled their lead on 58 minutes when Stephen Thompson found Josh Gillies who smashed home at the far post. Minutes later they were 3-0 up due to a Terry Galbraith penalty.
Alfreton's best effort in the second half came after Liam Hearn's chip was caught by Adam Bartlett.
The Reds remain in 18th place now six points above the relegation zone. Darlington move up to fourth.
