ALFRETON TOWN 2, BATH CITY 1
Saturday Apr 28, 2012
ALFRETON Town ended a historic first season in the Blue Square Bet Premier Divison with a 2-1 home win over already relegated Bath City at the Impact Arena.
The win means Nicky Law's side have finished in a very respectable 15th place in the table.
All the goals came in an eight-minute spell in the first half with Daniel Meadows firing home the opener on 17 minutes with an angled ten-yarder into the far corner.
The Reds doubled their lead three minutes later when Nathan Arnold robbed Mark Preece and sent a low cross through the six-yard box for Anthony Wilson to turn home from three yards out at the far post.
The visitors were handed a lifeline back into the game on 25 minutes when referee Handley awarded a harsh-looking penalty after Scott Murray's cross struck Connor Franklin on the arm with the defender no more than a couple of yards away from him. Even then, keeper Dan Lowson was unfortunate not to keep Murray's penalty out, the ball bobbling into the net after Lowson had chosen the right direction and got both hands to it.
Bath showed well in the second half and Lowson was called into action to make several saves to preserve all three points.
After the game, Anton Brown was a hugely popular winner of the Supporters' Player of the Season award.
The attendance was 786 and Daniel Meadows was named man of the match.
